Preparation for Deliverance

In his book What Demons Do To Saints, Dr. Merrill Unger wrote "The demon enters... as a squatter not as an owner or a guest or as one who has right there. But he comes in as an intruder and as an invader and enemy. But come he does if the door is opened by serious and protected sin.

The devil does not own you but he did come to steal and destroy your peace which in turn will destroy your witness for Christ. John 10:10

It is important to remember throughout the process that because you have been born again by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you are going to heaven. It is also important to remember that while here on earth, although you cannot be demon possessed, you can possess demons. Satan comes to steal your joy but he cannot steal your salvation.

God's Word on Deliverance...

Read Mark Chapter 5

Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the remnant that the LORD calls.

Matthew 6:13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

Mark 16:17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues.

Matthew 10:1 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease

What do I need to do first?

1. Unconfessed sin:

1 John 1:9 if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Matthew 18: 34 & 35 and his master was angry, and delivered him to the torturers until he should pay all that was due to him. So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.

Prior to your session, time must be spent alone with God. Ask Him to bring to your mind any sin in your past that you need to ask forgiveness for. Simply ask God to bring it to mind, be still, and jot down any situation or time in your life that he reminds you of. It is important that you write these things down because it will be used during your session. It will be important for you to verbally ask God to forgive you of these things. It may also be that during those times the doors were opened for the demons to take up residence.

2.Forgiveness:

Read Matthew 18:21-35

These scriptures show you that God expects you to extend forgiveness to others just as He extends forgiveness to you. It is easier said than done, however, should unforgiveness remain then the demons won't leave and they will continue to cause destruction.

... Forgiving someone for something they did to you does not make what they did right-- it is not saying that it was o.k. In God's Word, He tells us to forgive...This is being obedient to our Lord and He wants to bless us for our obedience. Lay the problem at the Cross and let your Heavenly Father take it from you. This will free you to heal and become whole and healthy.

So once again, take time to sit quietly with God and ask Him to bring to your mind all those people that you may have unforgiveness for and ask Him to help you to truly and sincerely forgive them. Once again it is important that you write the names of these people down so that at your session you will be able to verbally forgive them in prayer.

3. Consider doing a study on Ephesians 6

Remember deliverance is spiritual warfare and you must be prepared for battle!

4. Are you ready?

You can find the personal history form on this site under healing.  This form is very important, it must be completed by you and it must be as accurate as possible. The information is very personal and you can be rest assured that it will be kept in the strictest of confidence and will be shared only with those individual(s) who will be present during your deliverance.

In conclusion...

The deliverance session is by no means the end to all of your problems. However, it is the beginning to realizing the contentment and peace that Jesus brings when you make Him the center of your life. By putting prayer, praise and the Word at the top of your priority list each day you will protect your deliverance and disarm  satan.
